What should you do if your shared car breaks down?
Has your rental car broken down, or can you no longer continue your journey due to damage? We understand how frustrating that can be, and we're here to help.
Contact roadside assistance through the SnappCar app as soon as possible. If you see warning lights on the dashboard, stop driving immediately and call for assistance. Continuing to drive could cause additional damage, which we naturally want to avoid.
How to contact roadside assistance
Open My Bookings in the SnappCar app
Open your active booking
Scroll down and select Contact Support
Choose Option 2: Roadside Assistance
Please also inform the car owner about the situation. The roadside assistance service will assess whether the issue can be resolved on-site. If not, the vehicle will be transported to a garage for repairs.
Is roadside assistance included with car sharing?
Yes. Roadside assistance is included during your rental through SnappCar. As long as your booking is active, you can contact roadside assistance directly through the app.
Please note that additional charges may apply in certain situations, such as using the wrong fuel or draining the battery through improper use.
What happens if the shared car cannot be repaired immediately?
If you cannot continue your journey and the vehicle cannot be repaired right away, end your rental through the app.
Make sure to:
Record the current mileage
Enter the fuel level or battery charge
Take photos of the situation
This will automatically start the damage reporting process and notify the insurer.
Will I receive replacement transportation if the car breaks down?
Yes, replacement transportation may be arranged in certain cases.
Within the Netherlands: up to 2 days
Abroad: up to 4 days
This is always arranged in consultation with SnappCar. Replacement transportation may include a rental car or public transport.
When do you have to pay additional roadside assistance costs?
In some situations, an additional fee of €100 per breakdown incident may apply, including:
Refuelling with the wrong type of fuel
Failing to refuel or recharge the vehicle in time
A flat battery caused by leaving lights on
Leaving the keys locked inside the vehicle
Can you receive roadside assistance abroad with a shared car?
Yes, roadside assistance is also available abroad, provided that:
You selected international coverage for your trip
You have the owner's permission to take the vehicle abroad
Without international coverage, any roadside assistance costs will be your responsibility.
What should you do if the shared car won't start?
If the shared car won't start, follow these steps:
Check that the vehicle has been properly unlocked
Make sure the car is in the correct position (for example, in Park (P))
If the problem persists, contact roadside assistance immediately through the app
Please also inform the owner that the vehicle will not start.
