Breakdowns during the rental period: what happens and what to expect

Updated over 2 months ago

Although it's not ideal, a renter may experience a breakdown while driving your car. Below is an overview of the process and how SnappCar supports you as the owner.

What happens when roadside assistance is called?

  • The renter contacts the roadside assistance service

  • In most cases, the issue is resolved on the spot, such as:

    • A dead battery

    • A flat tire

    • Other minor technical issues

  • After the repair, the renter can continue the trip at no extra cost

If immediate repair is not possible

  • The car will be towed to the garage you specify to us.

  • The renter will receive support in reaching their destination or returning home.

  • You will receive earnings for the period during which the car was actually used.

Availability during roadside assistance

Make sure you are reachable when roadside assistance is activated. If your car needs to be towed, we may ask for your garage’s address, either by phone or email.

Frequency of breakdown reports

SnappCar monitors how often breakdowns occur. If issues arise repeatedly (especially with Keyless vehicles), we will contact you to discuss the situation.

Possible measures for recurring problems include:

  • Temporary exclusion from international rentals

  • In extreme cases: request to remove the vehicle within 30 days

Costs not covered by insurance

If the breakdown is caused by poor vehicle condition (e.g. worn tires), the costs for roadside assistance may be charged to you afterwards.

Therefore, regularly check your car’s technical condition. All requirements are listed in Article 5.1 of our General Terms and Conditions.
