What is SnappCar Keyless?

SnappCar Keyless is a piece of hardware technology that owners can install in their cars. This technology allows renters to open the car using the SnappCar app, which means that the owner does not have to be present for the key exchange at check-in. Keyless cars can be identified by the blue icon in the search results.

What are the benefits of SnappCar Keyless?

How does Keyless work? 

If you decide to use SnappCar Keyless, we will install a box which makes it possible to open and close the car with the SnappCar app. Very simple for you, and in the meantime, you do not need to worry about your car:

  • Only you and a renter with an approved booking can open the car
  • SnappCar Keyless uses an immobilizer for extra security. Even if there is a break-in and the key is taken, the car can not be started.
  • You can see the location of your car in the App at any given time, except during an active booking (to guarantee the privacy of a renter)

 

What technology will be installed in my car?

SnappCar uses two technologies: 2Hire and Invers, which are installed by certified installers. Both Keyless systems are invisibly connected to your car's existing electronics and can then communicate with the SnappCar app via mobile internet. 

 

When am I eligible for SnappCar Keyless?

To ensure that SnappCar Keyless functions properly, there are a number of conditions that your car must meet:

 

Basic requirements

  • The vehicle has central locking
  • The owner has 2 keys to the vehicle
  • The vehicle meets the criteria as described in the general 
terms and conditions
  • The vehicle has been produced in 2010 or later
  • The vehicle's mileage is less than 250,000

 

Location requirements

  • The vehicle is easily accessible on foot for renters 
(though not located on private property)

  • The vehicle's location offers mobile internet coverage 
(not situated in an underground garage)

Furthermore, each vehicle should be checked for insurance risk, and vehicles can therefore be excluded from rental via SnappCar Keyless.

 

How and where does the installation take place?

The installation is carried out by one of our regular partners. After signing the contract, you will be called to schedule an appointment. The installation can take place at one of the locations of our installation partners, which can be in Amsterdam or near Utrecht.

For a fee, the installation can also be at a location of your choice (for example at your own house). If you choose this option, the location needs to be dry and warm. Preferably the installation is performed underneath a roof because otherwise in case of rain or snow, the installation can not take place. 

 

What data is tracked?

With the SnappCar Keyless technology that is installed in your car, SnappCar has access to certain details about your scar, including (depending on the model) fuel level, mileage, GPS location and general user information about the car. This data will not be shared with third parties, in a way where this data is (or can be) traceable to an individual unless SnappCar is obligated and/or when there is a well-founded reason for doing so, e.g. suspected misuse or fraudulent activities. How is my car secured?

  • Only you and a renter with a booking you have accepted are able to open the car
  • Your car key remains safely stored and is invisible from outside the car
  • SnappCar Keyless uses your immobilizer as extra security. Even if there is a break-in and the key is stolen in some way, the car cannot be started
  • You can see where your car is at any time via the App unless there is an active booking (to ensure the privacy of the renter)

 

Can I still use my own car?

Yes, of course! You can decide when you rent your car. If you want to use the car yourself you can use the key or the SnappCar App. If you are planning to rent out the car, you place the key in the holder and close your car with the app. A more detailed instruction is provided after installation.
