How does fuel and charging work when renting out your car?

Updated over 4 months ago

Fuel and charging: clear agreements between renter and owner For every booking, it’s important that you and the renter agree on how fuel or charging will be handled.

How does it work with fuel?

SnappCar records the fuel level at the start and end of the booking, but any difference is not automatically settled. That’s why clear agreements are key.

Most common: The car is handed over with a full tank and returned with a full tank.

Alternative: The car is handed over with, for example, 80% fuel and must be returned at the same level.

💡 Tip: Let the renter know how much a full tank costs (in liters or euros), so they know what to expect.

Another option:

Some owners settle fuel costs afterwards, based on:

  • Number of kilometers driven

  • Average fuel consumption of the car

  • Current fuel price

And for electric cars?

The same principles apply:

  • Agree whether the car should be charged or if a fee will be charged

  • For example: the car must be returned with at least 30% battery capacity

Clear communication helps avoid surprises for both sides.
