How are SnappCar prices calculated? | SnappCar

What exactly do you pay for a SnappCar booking? From the daily rate to insurance and roadside assistance, we explain all costs clearly and transparently.

How are SnappCar prices calculated?

The price of a SnappCar rental consists of several fixed components: the daily rate, insurance, roadside assistance, and the SnappCar fee. In addition, you'll pay extra if you exceed the number of included kilometers. Below, we explain what each component covers and how the costs are determined.

Daily rate

The daily rate is set by the car owner. As a result, prices may vary, even for the same type of vehicle. Some owners use dynamic pricing, which means the rental price automatically adjusts based on demand, availability, and the season. This ensures you pay a rate that reflects current market conditions at the time of booking.

Insurance

Every booking automatically includes all-risk insurance through Allianz. The insurance premium varies per day and depends on both your risk profile and the vehicle's profile. The cost ranges from €5.50 to €21 per day.

SnappCar fee

The SnappCar fee covers the use of the platform, including customer support and services. The fee varies by vehicle type:

  • Cars: 13.5% of the daily rate

  • Vans: 16% of the daily rate

  • Extra kilometres: 10% commission

Roadside assistance

Roadside assistance is mandatory during your rental period and is always included in your booking. The cost depends on the type of vehicle and whether you're driving in the Netherlands or elsewhere in Europe.

Frequently asked questions about SnappCar pricing

How much do you pay per kilometer with SnappCar?

Each vehicle includes a certain number of free kilometers. If you exceed that allowance, you'll pay an additional fee per kilometer. The rate is set in advance by the owner and is clearly displayed before you book. If you stay within the included mileage allowance, you won't pay anything extra.

How much does it cost to rent a car for half a day?

If you rent a vehicle for less than 5 hours, you'll pay 50% of the total rental price and receive 50% of the included free kilometers.

Do you get a discount for renting multiple days?

Yes. For rentals longer than 3 days, you may receive a 15% discount on the daily rate. This discount is optional and can be activated by the owner. If no discount appears during

booking, the owner has chosen not to offer one.

Is a shared car cheaper than a traditional rental car?

Yes. Car sharing through SnappCar is often more affordable than renting from a traditional car rental company. You rent directly from local private owners, without the overhead costs of a large rental agency. All costs are shown upfront before you book.

What extra charges can apply when renting a car?

With SnappCar, you always pay for four standard components:

  • The daily rate

  • Insurance

  • The SnappCar fee

  • Roadside assistance

Additional charges may apply if you drive more kilometers than the included allowance. There are no hidden fees.

Is a shared car cheaper than a taxi or public transport for a day trip?

For a day trip outside the city, a shared car is often cheaper than taking taxis or buying multiple train tickets. This is especially true if you're traveling with several people or visiting a location with limited public transport connections. A shared car also gives you more flexibility, allowing you to travel whenever you want rather than following a timetable.

Is a shared car cheaper than owning a car?

Yes, for most people who don't need a car every day. Owning a car typically costs between €400 and €600 per month in depreciation, insurance, road tax, and maintenance, even when the car isn't being used. With SnappCar, you only pay when you drive. If you use a car fewer than 15 days per month, car sharing is almost always the more affordable option.

Is car sharing still cost-effective if you need a car frequently?

Yes, up to a certain point. If you use a car fewer than 15 days per month, car sharing is generally cheaper than owning or leasing a vehicle.

If you need a car almost every day, it's worth comparing the costs with a private lease agreement. Tip: With SnappCar X DirectLease, you can combine both options: lease a car and offset part of your monthly costs by renting it out through SnappCar.
