Rental-ready: how to share a car conform our standards

A great rental experience starts with the car itself. Renters choose a car that's safe and clean, with no surprises. When you get that right, it shows in your reviews, your car gets booked more often, and you earn more.

We've defined what "rental-ready" means. It comes down to three things: your car is technically sound, your car is clean, and you communicate clearly with your renter. This is the baseline we expect from every car on SnappCar.

1. Technically sound

A reliable car prevents problems on the road and cancellations. Run through these points regularly:

  • Valid MOT — Keep track of when your MOT expires and schedule the inspection well in advance.

  • Oil level — Check it regularly and top up when needed.

  • Tyres — Check pressure, tread depth and any damage.

  • Fluids — Keep coolant, windscreen washer fluid, brake fluid and power steering fluid topped up.

  • Lights — Check that all lights work and replace them when needed.

  • Update damage in the app — Remove photos of damage that has been repaired. This prevents misunderstandings.

2. Clean

Renters expect a clean, tidy car when they get in. A well-presented car always leads to better reviews.

  • Interior — Remove rubbish, empty bottles and personal items. Clean any visible dirt from seats, mats and the dashboard. Make sure the car smells fresh and is free of smoke, pet or food odours.

  • Windows and mirrors — Clean the windscreen inside and out. Check that the view is clear through the side windows, rear window and all mirrors.

  • Exterior — The car doesn't need to go through a car wash before every booking — sometimes bookings follow each other quickly, we get that. Clean the exterior when there's significant dirt, like mud or bird droppings. Always keep the number plates clearly readable.

  • Nothing left behind — Check that no personal items or belongings from a previous renter are still in the car.

3. Clear communication

A renter who knows what to expect sets off with confidence. That saves you questions and hassle during the rental.

Make sure this is right for every booking:

  • The pick-up location is clear and matches reality.

  • Respond quickly to requests and questions.

  • Access to the car (key or keyless) is clear and works.

  • The renter knows how to start the trip.

  • You notify renters of any changes in good time.

  • You are reachable during the rental period.

Tip: set up three default messages in the app

You can prepare default messages for your renters to prevent questions. You'll find these in your car settings.
